Spain's first bottled Sangria did not originate in its schorching hot Southern area, as might be expected, but rather in Rioja. In 1960's Bodegas Rioja Santiago developed the technology to stabilize and bottle what, until then, has been a typical homemade Spanish punch of wine and citrus juice called Sangria, the new beverage was shown at a trade fair in New York and became an instant success in America.
